(Chelsea’s 21/22 Best XI)
Transfer disaster and Sanctions, Injury FC, and a season to forget for the Blues
After becoming Champions of Europe, Chelsea and their fans (including me) were looking forward to contending for the Premier League title in the coming season. Chelsea seemed to be off to a good start, recording the most number of clean sheets in the league. Chelsea’s problem with a lack of consistency from options in the final third continued, but didn’t seem to be a problem as Chelsea’s back line was banging in goals from left, right, and center. Lukaku disappeared after scoring a goal against Arsenal and Havertz was the main man up top. Werner looked like he completely lost his form and Ziyech was on his top form from March with his magical left foot finesse shot into the top left corner against Tottenham and Middlesbrough before disappearing. The injuries of Ben Chilwell and Reece James were the ultimate blow that ended Chelsea’s season.
It is evident that Chelsea has to both trim and strengthen their squad over the summer transfer window. The exits of players like Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Romelu Lukaku show the need for depth in both the back and front lines. With Loanees like Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja coming back after a successful loan spell with Crystal Palace and Southampton respectively, it will be interesting to see how Tuchel integrates these players into his plans.
Rating: 7/10
Worst Signing(of all time): Romelu Lukaku
