Jadon Sancho: From Starboy to Mr.007

Jadon Sancho, one of the star transfers that happened during the past 20-21 summer transfer window. Originally, Manchester United wanted the move to happen during the 19-20 summer transfer window but failed while trying to cut the price when Dortmund had put an official price tag and a deadline on the deal. On the deadline, Dortmund announced a 1-year contract extension with Sancho which caused United fans to once again sigh at the club’s board and director, Ed Woodward. After having a taste of their fans’ anger last season, Manchester United presented Jadon Sancho as a United player in the early days of the transfer window. It seemed as if they were a team that would be capable of setting their eyes on the Champions League Trophy. However, the reality was cruel. During the first few rounds, fans supported Sancho, saying that he needed time to adapt to the Premier League. However, as the lack of form started getting longer and longer, fans and pundits have started to question both Sancho’s ability and Solskjaer’s ability to give him the right tactical advice. When Sancho was cooking up the Bundesliga, we can see that he is at his best when he passes and moves into space to get the ball again and either finish or pass to make an assist. However, Solskjaer tries to use Sancho as the typical dribble-and-cross winger which is not how Sancho is used to playing, nor what he can do best. This exposes Solskjaer’s lack of understanding about the style of his players before requesting the club to buy the player. Sky Germany had headlines reading “Mr.007” with Sancho on the front pages, which alludes to the James Bond movie that was released recently in theaters. In Sancho’s case, 007 stands for 0 goals, 0 assists, in 7 games.
